Who we are...

A Judy Center is a partnership of many community agencies working together to empower parents as they prepare their young children for school.  The goal is to improve school readiness through early intervention, comprehensive services to families, and support for programs in the community that serve young children and their families.

Why Are Judy Centers Important?

Research shows that the quality of care young children receive through child care, public school programs,  Head Start, etc. is critical to a child’s development and future school success.  Judy Centers assure high quality early care for all children birth through 5 years of age.

The Importance of Early Childhood Education

“85 percent of who you are- your intellect, your personality, your social skills- is developed by age 5.  Let’s invest where it makes the most difference.”

  • Massachusetts Early Education for All

Benefits of Early Learning

  • More likely to graduate from high school

  • A reduction in behavior problems throughout the school career

  • Less likely to become involved with crime in later years

  • Longer attention spans and overall better retention of information

  • Improvement in the social skills of children

  • Reduction of the need for special education later in school

  • Generally better grades received

Why should 3-year-olds come to school?

Teachers can:

  • Help with separation anxiety between children and parents

  • Help with tantrums that many children exhibit at this age

  • Work with speech and language development

  • Detect possible developmental or learning delays

  • Assist children with following directions and making choices

  • Help students to develop skills such as sharing and taking turns

  • Teach the students routines and self-help skills

Children will begin to develop friendships outside of the family circle.  They will have opportunities to play together in both small and large groups.  They will develop responsibilities through daily chores such as being the line leader, door holder, weather person, calendar person, etc.  Their sense of independence will grow as they develop important life skills. Your little one will start to explore the world outside your home.  They will begin learning rules to more difficult games.
